Why is it easy to lift heavy things w/a hoist?

I’m looking for a small pulley system to lift/raise my bicycle.

A pulley system/ hoist with more than one pulley has a mechanical
advantage.
With 2 pulleys, only 1/2 the weight is on the rope that you pull on.
With 3 pulleys, only 1/3 the weight is on the rope that you pull on.
This continues almost to infinity.
